The European politician Hannes Swoboda (78) was honored on Thursday evening in Fresach for his political life’s work in the spirit of tolerance, democracy and human rights. Swoboda gained respect and recognition for his social commitment across ideological boundaries; he built bridges with his political and cultural commitment and encouraged many people to think and act in a European way. “The award for a life’s work is always associated with a high degree of responsibility and affection. During the ten years of his presidency of the European Tolerance Talks, we have come to know and appreciate Hannes Swoboda as a highly competent, extremely educated and knowledgeable contemporary.
